Lesson 3 - Discussion Director


Objective: The students will...
  • Make inferences before, during, and after to extend ideas beyond the text
  • Use information to generate questions that reflect inference, analysis, and evaluation
  • Clarify and extend ideas through discussions and activities
  • Create a Padlet discussion board
Materials:
Access to internet
1 computer/tablet for each student in Lit Group

Procedure:
1. As Discussion Director, students should react to the reading and use their reactions to generate discussions on Padlet to create discussion questions for group.

2. Have students watch the brief screencast on how to use Padlet as a whole class prior to performing the Discussion Director role. It can be found at the following link on Youtube.


3. Once they watch the screencast, you can make it available on Google Classroom or share it with them in case they need to rewatch it, which they most likely will. I typically post the recording to Google Classroom so they can access as they need to.
4. They can then post their content. Be sure you ask students to include your email when they add email addresses so you can assess their role as Discussion Director.

View discussion board. Was the student successfully able to..
*Create a padlet board?
*create a question/activity that generates further questions that reflect inference, analysis, and evaluation?
*Clarify and extend ideas through discussions and activities?

Teacher's discretion as to how this is assessed - could be a checklist, rubric, feedback left on Padlet itself.
